Mortlake is a good midway stopping point when travelling Melbourne to Portland via the quiet way along the Hamilton and Hopkins Highways.

There is a great historic walk right in town, that takes visitors along a series of some 20 significant buildings dating back into the mid 1800's - and a good example of bluestone architecture. Mortlake lies at the base of Mount Shadwell, and is well known for its Olivine gem stones.

In the neighbourhood:
Allansford (39km), Camperdown (34km), Cobden (36km), Curdie Vale (49km), Darlington (23km), Dennington (44km), Derrinallum (39km), Garvoc (24km), Koroit (45km), Lake Bolac (41km), Panmure (28km), Purnim (27km), Terang (20km), Timboon (47km), Warrnambool (44km), Wickliffe (45km)
